SUBJECT: Authorize Board Appointment of Erin Gustafson, M.D., to the
Deputy Health Officer Position
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Health Services Department is requesting Board appointment of Erin Gustafson, M.D., to the position of Deputy Health Officer.
Dr. Gustafson comes to Lake County Board certified and trained in Public Health and Preventive Medicine. She has extensive experience in epidemiology, biostatistics, and health administration.
Dr. Gustafson recently worked for the New York State Department of Health as a Public Health Physician II, Program Director, and was responsible for healthcare, epidemiology and infection control.
Dr. Gustafson is licensed in California, New York and South Carolina. She has been responsible for two quality improvement projects. One to optimize management of cardiovascular risk factors in HIV positive patients and one to reduce heart failure readmissions at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital.
Dr. Gustafson’s experience in healthcare statistics and epidemiology lead her to do a research project to study characteristics of participants in the maternal child home visiting program as well as a project to evaluate South Carolina’s surveillance system for microcephaly, especially when related to prenatal Zika virus exposure.
