MEMORANDUM

TO:                                          Board of Supervisors

FROM:                     Crystal Markytan, Social Services Director

DATE:                                          February 6, 2018

SUBJECT:                     Adopt Resolution Amending Resolution No. 2008-168 Authorizing Access to State And Local Summary Criminal History Information by the Department of Social Services.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

In 2008, the Board adopted Resolution 2008-168 to authorize the Department of Social Services to conduct background checks through the Department of Justice for state and local criminal history on new or promoting employees.  The Internal Revenue Service has issued a revision to their Publication 1075 which necessitates an amendment to the current Resolution which will include applying additional criminal history screening to our current background check process.

We recommend the Board approve the Resolution adopting access to state and federal level summary criminal history information, subsequent arrest notification, and the Child Abuse Central Index for employment within the Lake County Department of Social Services.
