SUBJECT:                     Approve Agreement between the County of Lake and the Kelseyville Unified School District for the assignment of a School Resource Officer for a base rate of $120,000 from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019; and authorize the Sheriff to sign

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:  The Sheriff’s Office is requesting approval to enter into a contract with the Kelseyville Unified School District to provide them with one full time School Resource Officer. The goal of this partnership is promote safer schools and children by having school-based law enforcement officers working as partners to protect students, faculty, and the school community. The district has agreed to cover the total average cost for a deputy’s salary and benefits, at $120,000 per year.  The Sheriff’s Office will continue to supervise and manage the deputies, as well as provide for the deputy’s ongoing training. Those costs would be borne by the Sheriff’s Office current budget, so with little exception these programs will be cost neutral.

FISCAL IMPACT (Narrative):    Revenue for the Kelseyville SRO is currently budgeted at $51,500. This revenue will increase by $68,500 for a total of $120,000 during final budgets.

 

STAFFING IMPACT (if applicable):   The Sheriff’s Department will be adding one additional Deputy Sheriff I/II (SRO) to the Sheriff/Coroner Budget Unit 2201 position allocation during final budgets.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:  Approve Agreement between the County of Lake and the Kelseyville Unified School District for the assignment of a School Resource Officer for a base rate of $120,000 from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019; and authorize the Sheriff to sign.
