MEMORANDUM

TO: Jim Steele, Chairman, Board of Supervisors
FROM: Brian L. Martin, Sheriff/Coroner/OES Director
DATE: October 16, 2018
SUBJECT: A proclamation of intent to participate in the Great California Shakeout and work toward becoming a safer community

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

2018 is the 10th Anniversary of ShakeOut, which began in southern California in 2008.
The ShakeOut is free and open-to-the-public, and participants include individuals, schools, businesses, local and state government agencies, and many other groups. To take part in the ShakeOut, individuals and organizations are asked to join the drill by registering to participate www.shakeout.org. Once registered, participants receive regular information on how to plan their drill and become better prepared for earthquakes and other disasters.

ShakeOut will occur in houses, workplaces, schools, and public spaces at 10:18 a.m. on October 18, 2018.

Earthquakes may happen anywhere you work, live, or travel. Great ShakeOut Earthquake Drills are our chance to practice together how to protect ourselves, and for everyone to become prepared. The goal is to save lives and prevent disasters from becoming catastrophes.

At 10:18 a.m. on 10/18, Lake County will join millions of participants who want to take earthquake-safe ...
