MEMORANDUM
TO: Tina Scott, Chair, Board of Supervisors
FROM: Brian L. Martin, Sheriff/Coroner
DATE: January 8, 2019
SUBJECT: Approve Agreement between the Sheriff’s Department and the Public Works Department for use of inmate workers
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Sheriff’s Department and the Department of Public Works have worked together for many years coordinating the use of our inmate workforce to assist the County with crews that can perform manual and unskilled labor such as litter pick up, weed removal, brush clearing, plant re-establishment, crack sealing and other duties as deemed appropriate by both departments. The Department of Public Works picks up and returns inmate crews each day at the jail facility.
Attachment A has been revised to reflect a 15 hour advanced notice of cancellation for any inmates not needed the following day. This change is being made as staff time is required to process inmates for this service and Public Works has agreed to reimburse these costs for failure to notify the jail in a timely manner. This contract has an effective date of July 1, 2018.
