SUBJECT:                     A resolution to accept grant funds from the California Department of Parks and Recreation, Division of Boating and Waterways for improvements to Highland Springs Recreation Area

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The California Department of Parks and Recreation, Division of Boating and Waterways requires your Board to pass a resolution stating our intent to accept the grant funds.  Said funds will be used to plan, design and construct new boat launching and bathroom facilities at Highland Springs Recreation Area.

The Lake County Watershed Protection District (District) owns approximately 3200 acres of property in the Adobe Creek Watershed known as the Highlands Springs Recreation Area. A 258-acre portion of the recreation area, including a 72-acre reservoir, has been developed as the Highland Springs Park which provides a variety of recreational uses.

The Park was constructed in 1968 in cooperation with the California Wildlife Conservation Board. The restrooms and boat launch facility are sorely in need of replacement and repair.  If approved this grant will fund new ADA compliant non-motorized boat launching facilities and restrooms.
