SUBJECT: Approve the purchase of Microsoft Exchange Licenses in the amount of $69,381.46 and authorize IT director to issue purchase order. Purchase will be made via the NASPO ValuePoint Data Communications Products and Services statewide contract
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The County of Lake has been using Microsoft Exchange 2010 for nine years. This version will no longer be supported by Microsoft in January 2020. This means no new security updates or bug fixes will be provided after that date. Last year, the Technology Governance Committee reviewed several options for future e-mail systems including Microsoft Office 365. The committee determined that continuing with an on-premises Exchange server system would continue to be the most cost effective solution going forward. As a result, funding for this upgrade was requested and approved for fiscal year 2018/2019. This upgrade will allow the county to continue providing a secure, supportable e-mail system.
