SUBJECT: Approve Long Distance Travel for Two Staff Members to the Western Interstate Child Support Enforcement Council in Spokane, Washington
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Department of Child Support Services requests your Board's approval of long distance travel for two staff members to attend the Western Interstate Child Support Enforcement Council (WICSEC) annual training conference in Spokane Washington. The conference dates are October 6- 10, 2019 and the estimated cost is $4,200.
WICSEC is an organization of public and private child support professionals from the states, tribes, and territories west of the Mississippi. The purposes are to foster interstate and inter-jurisdictional cooperation in the establishment and enforcement of child and medical support and the establishment of paternity.
Our out of state/country caseload has increased to 15% of our caseload and it continues to grow. These cases require more specialized handling and knowledge to comply with each state/country requirements.
During this five-day event, the participants attend presentations and workshops to; enhance their knowledge of interstate/country issues, the latest changes in Federal regulations dealing with; new UIFSA 2008 regulations, custody and visitation, invaluable networking, and the most current information on the national strategic plan and how all of these will affect Lake County.
