SUBJECT:                     Approve Long Distance Travel for three staff to attend a National Level Educational Event Facilitated by the North American Council on Adoptable Children in Las Vegas, Nevada.

 

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

This is a national level educational event facilitated by the North American Council on Adoptable Children.  Training will cover a wide variety of foster care and adoption topics, including more than 80 workshops from expert speakers on topics including:

                     Supporting and preserving adoptive families

                     Core issues in adoption

                     Effective therapeutic techniques in adoption

                     Kinship care and birth family connections

                     Parenting children with disabilities and challenges

                     Older children and youth

                     Race, culture, and diversity in adoption and foster care

                     Supporting children and families in adoption and foster care

                     Recruiting families for children

 

Estimated cost for all three staff persons to attend is approximately $4000.  The entire cost of the conference, transportation, lodging and meals will be paid for through the Chabot Las Positas Community College District (CLPCCD) contract.  Staff will travel between July 16 and July 21.

 

This learning opportunity is of particular value to our adoption staff as adoption-specific training has not been readily available through our typical training venues (UC Davis, CDSS, etc.).  This conference presents adoption staff with an excellent opportunity to learn from experts in the field about issues directly relevant to adoption work.
