MEMORANDUM
TO: The Honorable Tina Scott, Chair, Lake County Board of Supervisors
FROM: Bruno Sabatier, District 2 Supervisor
Eddie Crandell, District 3 Supervisor
DATE: August 13, 2019
SUBJECT: 9:15 A.M. - Consideration of creating a standing committee to support and facilitate the Middle Creek Restoration Project
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Middle Creek Restoration Project has taken a long time to get to where we are and there is still much more that needs to be done in order to complete the project. Currently the project is being led by our Water Resources Department Director as well as the Middle Creek Restoration Coalition, made up of volunteers who wish to see this project through.
During a presentation given to us by Peter Windrem, he spoke of the need for help to get this project moving. Supervisor Crandell and Supervisor Sabatier met with the Alliance and Water Resources Director (current and previous) to see how it is that we could help. Thus far, we've helped to submit a letter to the federal committee that approves budgets for the Army Corps of Engineers. Along with the aid of Congressman John Garamendi's office, we were able to submit a request for appropriations and our project was tagged as a high priority.
Reflecting on the actions taken, Supervisor Crandell and Supervisor Sabatier decided that there is a need for long term assistance and there is a need for supervisors current and future to be a part of the process to help move it along.
Therefore we offer the possibility of creating a new standing committee, Middle Creek Restoration Coalition, to ensure that current and future leaders of Lake County are keeping their eye on and involved in this project as it is an important project to see through to completion.
