MEMORANDUM

TO:                                          BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

FROM:                     Denise Pomeroy, Health Services Director

DATE:                                          September 10, 2019

SUBJECT:                     Approve Long Distance Travel for Emillie Feenan to attend the CityMatCH Maternal and Child Health Leadership Conference in Providence, RI September 20th -26th, 2019 in the amount of $2,500.

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Emillie Feenan, Public Health Nurse III, Lead MCAH Coordinator has received a scholarship to attend the Annual CityMatCH Maternal and Child Health Leadership Conference in Providence, RI.

The Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Program provides services each step of the way-from pregnancy to motherhood, infancy to childhood, adolescent to adult-to improve the health and well-being of families in Lake County. MCAH offers an array of programs and initiatives that serve our communities diverse populations, providing proactive interventions,                      resources, information and data about health and social topics such as reproductive health, pregnancy, child health, health equity and more.

The CityMatCH MCAH Leadership Conference will host more than 800 leaders in urban and rural maternal and child health. This annual conference is a go-to resource for MCAH Public Health training, analysis, and best practices. They also provide important network connections for communities, government agencies, foundations, the health care delivery system, media, and academia.

This extensive training opportunity is not available in California. By attending this conference, Ms. Feenan will be better able to build and enhance networks with peers in the public health practice, as well as share best practices and lessons learned with an array of public health practitioners.

In turn, such a training benefits Lake County as a whole in ensuring that our rural county has access to professionals with current, evidence based, and upstream methodologies. This opportunity will help Ms. Feenan and County of Lake Health Services provide Lake County families with the most comprehensive up to date services available through the MCAH program.

Travel and all associated costs, including airfare, meals, airline baggage fees, ground transportation, hotel and airport parking are estimated at $2500.00. All costs are covered through the scholarship provided by MCAH Action.

As Health Services Director, I fully support Ms. Feenan’s attendance.
