SUBJECT: Approve the purchase of communications equipment from (a) Fisher Wireless in the estimated amount of $20,000 and; (b) County of Mendocino in the estimated amount of $12,000 and; (c) Dailey-Wells in the estimated amount of $11,000 to be installed on Mt. St. Helena and Authorize the Sheriff to sign the purchase orders

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The Lake County Sheriff's Office utilizes two-way radio systems to communicate between deputy sheriffs in the field and with Central Dispatch. In order for these two-way radios to work effectively throughout the County, the Sheriff's Office has repeater systems strategically located throughout the County to try and maximize the coverage area. The areas of Hidden Valley, Middletown and Cobb Mountain area have been a weak link in the two-way radio communication system for the Lake County Sheriff's Office since the inception of its radio system.
Recently the Lake County Sheriff's Office identified a location in a commercially owned vault on Mount Saint Helena that would provide much improved two-way radio communications for the Lake County Sheriff's Office deputy sheriffs and Central Dispatch. Testing was performed and this confirmed that it would improve radio communications over what is currently being used today at the CalPine Repeater site.
The Lake County Sheriff's Office has worked with its radio service provider, to identify the correct equipment needed to be installed in the vault, which is owned by ComSites West. We have been working with ComSites West on an Agreement to place a two-way radio repeater in their vault and an antenna on their communications tower.
