SUBJECT: Adopt a Resolution to Accept Grant Funds from UC Davis California for Laboratory Analysis for Sediment Nutrient Samples
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Staff is requesting the County of Lake Board of Supervisors sitting as the Board of Directors of the Lake County Watershed Protection District (District) approve a resolution authorizing the Water Resources Director to execute and sign a funding agreement with the John Muir Environmental Institute, the administrative granting arm of UC Davis.
The District has been offered funding in the amount of $25,000.00 to assist in the laboratory analysis of Clear Lake sediment samples. The purpose of this project is to help determine the contribution of Clear Lake sediments to the internal nutrient processes driving green algae and cyanobacteria blooms in the Clear Lake.
While there is no match required for this grant, and additional funds might get approved for future years, the District has a pre-existing contract with the laboratory conducting the analysis, to expire in October 2020, and has already budgeted the full analysis funds. The John Muir Institute grant is to financially assist in the continued analysis of these samples, with the Water Resources staff providing the labor to collect and ship the samples on a monthly basis.

Total project cost will not exceed $53,300 annually, with $25,000 grant funding bringing the project cost for 2019 to $28,300, which is already budgeted for YR 19-20.
