MEMORANDUM

TO:                                          The Honorable Tina Scott, Chair, Lake County Board of Supervisors

FROM:                     Bruno Sabatier, District 2 Supervisor

DATE:                                          October 22, 2019

SUBJECT:                     Discussion and direction to staff on the Dig Once Policy Ordinance

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

During the Master Broadband presentation, the Dig Once Policy Ordinance was discussed.  This policy would require that when work is being done such as a trench dug out for water systems, sewer systems, or other infrastructure, that all broadband agencies be contacted of the project and offered the availability to add on to the project and lay out broadband infrastructure.  This has the potential to reduce the cost of deploying a more robust broadband infrastructure to increase access to both residential and commercial areas ensuring that we stay competitive in the access to online jobs, education, and general access to the internet.
