MEMORANDUM

TO: Board of Supervisors
FROM: Lars Ewing, Public Services Director
DATE: November 5, 2019
SUBJECT: a) Adopt Resolution Amending Resolution No. 2019-127 Establishing Temporary Position Allocations For Fiscal Year 2019-2020, Budget Unit No. 1671, Buildings and Grounds; and b) Authorize the Public Services Director to appoint Dave Hendricks as Interim Facilities Maintenance Superintendent at Step 1, retroactive to October 03, 2019

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
The Public Services Department is faced with a temporary absence in the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent position. In order to sustain operations I am requesting a temporary above class assignment for Dave Hendricks to fill the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent position on an interim basis retroactive to October 3, 2019. Dave Hendricks has been filling this role since September 12, 2019, when the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent's temporary absence began. Mr. Hendricks has been with the Public Services Department since May 1, 2001 as a Facilities Maintenance Technician, and in September of 2018 he was promoted to Facilities Maintenance Leadworker. Mr. Hendricks is fully capable of taking on this role and has been doing an excellent job over the past month and a half.

This request is based on the following Personnel Rule 905 which states, in part, that "The Board of Supervisors may appoint a current permanent employee to an Interim Appointment in a non-elective exempt service classification. Such assignment is considered a temporary assignment effective on a date, at a rate, and for a period determined by the Board."

Additionally I am requesting your approval to adopt a Resolution Amending Resolution No. 2019-127 Establishing Temporary Position Allocations for Fiscal Year 2019-2020, in Budget Unit No. 1671, Buildings and Grounds.
