MEMORANDUM

TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
FROM: Lars Ewing, Public Services Director
DATE: November 19, 2019
SUBJECT: Adopt Resolution to apply for a grant with county matching funds in the amount of $30,000 for an Outdoor Fitness Court at Kelseyville Community Park and Hammond Park as part of the 2020 National Fitness Campaign.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Earlier this year the Public Services Department submitted a non-binding grant application to the National Fitness Campaign for participation in their 2020 initiative to install outdoor fitness courts in 200 cities, counties, and schools across the country. In August 2019 we were notified by the National Fitness Campaign board of the tentative award of two $30,000 grants to the County to install fitness courts at Kelseyville Community Park and Hammond Park in Nice. While the overall project cost for each site is estimated to be $150,000, it is staff's intent, and the model of the National Fitness Campaign, to build local partnerships and sponsorships to fund the majority of the improvements. In fact, one of the key components of the National Fitness Campaign is marketing and promotional work by the National Fitness Campaign. This work is included in the estimated project cost and will help secure the partnerships required to minimize County costs to install the fitness courts. Staff proposes that $30,000 of park improvements funds be allocated for each site, with the remaining funds to come from sponsorships secured through the campaign process. In order to move forward with the project the attached resolution is prepared to allocate those funds and indicate the County's commitment to work with the National Fitness Campaign to secure partnerships.
