TO: BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
FROM: Denise Pomeroy, Health Services Director
DATE: November 19, 2019
SUBJECT: Approve Health Services Request to Appoint Dr. Gary Pace to Serve on the Partnership HealthPlan Board of Commissioners and Represent Lake County for a Period of Four Years
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Dr. Robert Gardner recently notified the Health Services Department that he was resigning his position as a member of the Partnership HealthPlan Board of Commissioners.
The principle function of the governing board is to provide oversight and guidance, set policy and provide strategic direction. County of Lake, under the current Membership guidelines will continue to hold two seats on the Commission. Kim Tangermann, Director of the MCHC Lakeview Health Center currently holds one of the two seats.
As a result of Dr. Gardner's resignation, we would like to nominate our current Public Health Officer Dr. Gary Pace, who is very interested in representing the County of Lake on this Commission.
The importance of having Dr. Pace serve on this Board is immeasurable. As the Lake County Public Health Officer Dr. Pace has extensive knowledge regarding the health needs of our community, and can be a strong advocate and voice on this Board for the interests of Lake County. Our previous Health Officer Dr. Karen Tait also served on this Board for many years prior to her retirement.
Dr. Pace received his Medical Degree in 1987 from University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Over the course of his career, Dr. Pace has held many positions as Medical Director for multiple medical facilities and clinics and served as the Public Health Officer in Mendocino County. Dr. Pace has worked in Mendocino, Lake, and Sonoma counties, which makes him familiar with the medical needs of these communities. He also has a Master's Degree in psychology, MPH in Maternal Child Health, Certificate in Homeopathy and Herbal medicine, and can speak Spanish conversationally.
