Subject: Consideration of Acceptance of a Donation of a Refrigerated Trailer for Disaster Response by Hub Group, Incorporated, of Oak Park, IL

With jurisdictions around the country preparing for a potential surge in confirmed COVID-19 cases, some private companies are making equipment and supplies available to be repurposed for local disaster response.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office was recently informed of an opportunity to acquire a refrigerated trailer from Hub Group, Incorporated, of Oak Park, Illinois. A limited number of trailers were made available, and Hub Group's Senior Vice President, Ivan S. Zenovic, notified the Office of Emergency Services Lake County be receiving one.

We greatly appreciate the Hub Group's extraordinary generosity, and your Board's acceptance of this donation, valued at $17,200, will enhance the Lake County Sheriff-Coroner's capacity to respond in the event of a surge in COVID-19 activity in the coming weeks.

Background
California Government Code sections 25355 and 25356 empower your Board to accept or reject any donation of cash, services and/or supplies made to or in favor of the County. Your Board may also grant this authority to any elected or appointed County Department Head or the County Administrative Officer.

Section 10, subsection 40 of the Lake County Policies and Procedures Manual, as amended December 19, 2017, describes your Board's general policy and exceptions, and authorizes the County Administrative Officer to determine, case-by-base, whether donations of services or supplies during a declared Local Emergency require your Board's approval.
