Memorandum

Date:                                          April 14, 2020

To:                                          The Honorable Moke Simon, Chair, Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Rob Brown, District 5 Supervisor

Subject:                     Consideration of Letter to SBA in support of the needs of local tribes due to the COVID-19 crisis

Executive Summary: (include fiscal and staffing impact narrative):

In light of the COVID-19 crisis, I am requesting our Board discuss and take action on a letter to our Federal representatives, including the U.S. Treasury and the Small Business Administration, in support of our local tribes.

As you know, non-tribal businesses qualify for programs such as PPP that assist businesses that have been hit by the impacts of the SIP orders as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.

I am asking for our Board’s support in sending a letter requesting the same consideration be made to tribal owned businesses. In Lake County alone, hundreds of local jobs and millions of dollars that could be spent locally, are at stake. These businesses and their employees have been hit equally hard by the State and Federal orders and I feel they should be given the same consideration in applying for any program that might be available to any non-tribal business or employee.
