Subject: Extra Item: (a) Consideration of “extra” agenda item; and (b) Consideration of a Letter to HCD Regarding Planning Efforts for Distribution of CDBG-CV Funding for Economic Development, and Authorize the Chair to Sign
Executive Summary: (include fiscal and staffing impact narrative):
(a) This item is being submitted as an “extra” agenda item. The justification for this request to consider an item not on the posted agenda is as follows:
This item came to the attention of staff subsequent to the posting of the current agenda, and there is a need to take action before the next agenda.
(b) As your Board is aware, over the course of last week, planning efforts for distribution of funding stemming from CARES Act initiatives have rapidly evolved. Friday, after the posting of your Board’s Agenda, we received clarifying instruction, and we believe the attached letter will better position Lake County to access Community Development Block Grant CARES Act Stimulus funding for Coronavirus Response. The Comment Period ends April 22, 2020.
It is probable this funding could be most appropriately allocated to support loans for local businesses, and you are all aware the needs are unprecedented and profound, here and around the State. Perhaps now more than ever, demonstrating engagement and advocacy early and throughout funding distribution processes is critical to Lake County getting our fair share. Supporting businesses is critical to meeting your Board’s Vision 2028 Economic Development goals at this historic time.
Staff recommends your Board approve the attached Letter, and authorize the Chair to sign.
