Memorandum

Date:                                          May 26, 2020

To:                                          The Honorable Moke Simon, Chair, Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Susan Krones, District Attorney

Subject:                     Adopt Resolution Authorizing Acceptance of Grant Funds from Children's Advocacy Centers of California for the Emergency Response to Interpersonal Violence - 2020 Pandemic Program

Executive Summary: (include fiscal and staffing impact narrative):

Children’s Advocacy Centers of California (CACC) is offering funding to organizations that serve abused children during this pandemic. These funds originate from the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, which recognizes the importance of continuing service to abused children in our community during this time. To ensure the immediate safety of victims of interpersonal violence (child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking), funding will be distributed to service providers through CALICO/CACC, the California Partnership to end Domestic Violence (the Partnership), and the California Coalition against Sexual Assault (CALCASA)

The Lake County Victim Witness manages the Child Advocacy Center, Hope House. We provide services including multi-disciplinary interviews, assistance with California Victim Compensation Applications, direct counseling, assistance with restraining orders and relocation. We would use these funds for smaller furniture to allow for social distancing in the interview room and sneeze screens. Because of the pandemic, the Victim Witness Advocates are partially working from home and would benefit from laptops and cell phones to continue providing the level of service our child victims deserve.

We learned on Wednesday May 20, 2020 that we were awarded $8,010 for the purchases described above. At that time, we also learned that CACC requires a signed Certification of Assurances to be submitted to them by May 25, 2020. However, we were able to ask for an extension to May 27, 2020.
