To: The Honorable Moke Simon, Chair, Lake County Board of Supervisors

From: Rob Brown, District 5 Supervisor

Subject: Extra Item: (a) Consideration of "extra" agenda item; and (b) Discussion and Possible Direction to Staff Regarding Use of County Power Generation Assets During the Ongoing Historic Extreme Heat Event

Executive Summary: (include fiscal and staffing impact narrative):
(a) This item is being submitted as an "extra" agenda item. The justification for this request to consider an item not on the posted agenda is as follows:
This item came to the attention of staff subsequent to the posting of the current agenda, and there is a need to take action before the next agenda.

(b) Yesterday, Governor Newsom issued an Executive Order permitting expanded use of generator power in the State of California, to relieve pressure on the grid, statewide, in light of the ongoing historic Extreme Heat Event.

The California Office of Emergency Services has encouraged all major facilities to consider running generators during peak times (3-10pm) on Red Flag days. This can help us avoid rolling blackouts that could be very detrimental to vulnerable populations.

I am asking that our Board discuss this matter, and consider providing direction to staff.
