Subject: (a) Approve the purchase of a 2020 Can-Am MAV Sport XX UTV and (b) Authorize the Sheriff or his designee to issue a purchase order to Hillside Powersports Marine in the amount of $24,962.45
Executive Summary: The Sheriff's Department has issued an informal bid for the purchase of a 2020 Can-Am MAV Sport XX UTV for use by the OHV enforcement team. The OHV enforcement team utilizes a 4x4 Jeep, 5 dual sport motorcycles and 2 enclosed trailers. The motorcycles and Jeep are very effective, however the team now realizes the necessity of a high clearance Utility Task Vehicle (UTV) for areas where recreationalists commonly use UTV's such as Cow Mountain, where many trails are rated "difficult" and "impassable" with conventional vehicles. With the addition of a high clearance UTV, OHV team members will be able to gain access to nearly all trail systems designed for off road use. The newer UTV's being used by OHV enthusiasts cover terrain so efficiently it is almost impossible to conduct patrol enforcements without a vehicle equally equipped. The acquisition of a UTV will require the purchase of an open utility trailer to tow this vehicle.
Hillside Powersports Marine was the only bidder that could provide the requested vehicle prior to OHV grant closeout of October 30,2020. Monies have been made available through the OHV program. The county match is covered by green sticker fees.
