Date:                                          February 9, 2020

To:                                          The Honorable Bruno Sabatier, Chair, Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Crystal Markytan, Social Services Director

Subject:                     Approve Contract between County of Lake and Lake County Office of Education for Community Based Child Abuse Prevention Services from July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2024, and authorize the Chair to sign.

Executive Summary: (include fiscal and staffing impact narrative):

Under this Contract, Lake County Office of Education (LCOE) operates the local Child Abuse Prevention Council, known as the Lake County Children’s Council, utilizing Community Based Child Abuse Prevention (CBCAP) funding from the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). The Children’s Council organizes and oversees interagency collaboration and program consolidation for agencies providing services to children and families. This responsibility also includes facilitating activities for Child Abuse Prevention Month in April of each year. LCOE manages all projects approved by the Children’s Council, and provides training scholarships to community members, parents, childcare providers, etc., increasing education in our community to prevent child abuse and neglect. The Children’s Council has successfully moved many activities to a virtual platform because of COVID-19 restrictions, while their work to spread Child Abuse Prevention education is even more vital now due to limited face-to-face interaction with children. Funding for these services changes yearly based on the allocation from CDSS, all of which is dedicated to the Children’s Council duties and activities. Estimated cost is based on previous allocations.
