Memorandum

Date: February 2, 2021

To: The Honorable Bruno Sabatier, Chair, Lake County Board of Supervisors

From: Moke Simon, District 1 Supervisor

Subject: Approve Letters of Support for the Governor's Proposed Wildfire and Forest Resilience Expenditure Plan and Authorize the Chair to Sign

Executive Summary: (include fiscal and staffing impact narrative):

As you will all be aware, the Governor's Proposed Wildfire and Forest Resilience Expenditure Plan would allocate $1 billion to wildfire prevention and forest management projects.

Lake County's repeated and compounding wildfire disasters have demonstrated the profound importance of working proactively to reduce the probability of future large wildfire events. Recent work through the Lake County Risk Reduction Authority and community partners has shown great promise, and funding is needed to further these critical efforts.

The proposed Expenditure Plan would fund programs such as home hardening retrofits for low-income residents and grants to communities for fuels treatment projects and fire hardening efforts, such as fuel breaks, that can meaningfully reduce the risk to Lake County communities.

I recommend our Board approve the attached Letters of Support, and authorize the Chair to sign.
