Memorandum
Date: April 6, 2021
To: The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors
From: Bruno Sabatier, Chair and District 2 Supervisor
Brian Martin, County Sheriff
Subject: Approve Letter Opposing SB 271
Executive Summary: (include fiscal and staffing impact narrative):
Senate Bill 271, introduced by Senator Wiener attempts to strip all eligibility requirements to become a County Sheriff. We oppose this bill and believe that it will not benefit the county of Lake, nor any other county in the state if this is passed. Public trust in our law enforcement is important, and an inexperienced individual who does not understand the laws they are meant to uphold nor the Constitutions that they have sworn to uphold will only break that trust and make us lose accountability.
