Subject: 9:45 A.M. - (a) Consideration of Budget Transfer in the Amount of $120,000.00 from BU 1781 - Special Projects Account 717.55-07 to BU 1122 - Treasurer-Tax Collector Account 711.23-80 for Services Related to a Second Tax Sale for FY 20-21 and Authorize the Chair to Sign; and (b) Consideration of Budget Transfer in the Amount of $50,000 from BU 1781 - Special Projects Account 717.55-07 to BU 1231 - County Counsel Account 712.01-11 to Cover Permanent Salaries Through the End of the Fiscal Year and Authorize the Chair to Sign
Executive Summary: (include fiscal and staffing impact narrative):
(a) On March 2, 2021, your Board adopted a resolution directing the Tax Collector to hold a tax sale to auction off tax-defaulted properties. The tax sale will take place from June 5 through June 8, 2021, and will include almost 500 properties. The Treasurer-Tax Collector’s budget has insufficient funds to cover the costs associated with interested party research and conducting the online auction. Therefore, a Budget Transfer from BU 1781 - Special Projects to 1122 - Treasurer-Tax Collector has been submitted for your consideration.
(b) When County Counsel prepared their budget for FY 20-21, one of the Deputy County Counsel positions was unfilled and salary savings were shifted to other appropriations to balance the budget. Since then, the position has been filled and insufficient funds remain to cover the permanent salaries through the end of the fiscal year. The increase in wages due to the Classification and Compensation Study also contributed to the need for additional funds.
