Subject: Consideration of the California Fire Safe Council 2021 Calfire Evacuation Route Planning and Development Grant Program Application for Financial Aid for the Soda Bay Corridor Evacuation Route Planning and Maintenance Project, and authorize the Public Works Director to sign
Executive Summary:
The County recently was advised of a grant opportunity through the California Fire Safe Council called the 21 CALFIRE Evacuation Route Planning and Development Grant Program. The program provides financial assistance for entities to complete wildfire evacuation route projects. Eligible projects include evacuation route planning, implementation, public education, construction, signage, maintenance, and related activities. The project that is proposed meets all of the project eligibility requirements and staff requests your Board's consideration and approval to submit an application, along with your authorization for the Public Works Director to sign the application.
Background Information: A local coalition known as the Konocti Area Fire Safety Council, which is comprised of representatives from homeowner associations of the Kelseyville Riviera, Riviera West, Buckingham, and Riviera Heights, had originally planned to apply for the project. They were recently advised that the County needed to be the lead agency on the application, and Public Works was tasked with completing the document. Staff has worked with several individuals involved with the preliminary development of the project, as well as solicited input from your two Board members who act as Chair and Vice Chair of the Risk Reduction Authority - Supervisors' Simon and Pyska.
