Memorandum

Date:                                          March 22, 2022

To:                                          The Honorable Eddie Crandell, Chair, Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Todd Metcalf, Behavioral Health Services Director

Subject:                     Approve the Extended Use of County Juvenile Hall Facility for a Temporary Support Shelter Targeting Lake County’s Chronically Homeless Population through June 30, 2022

Executive Summary:

On July 20th, 2021, your Board approved a contract between Lake County Behavioral Health Services and Elijah House to fund continued COVID-19 homeless shelter operations at old juvenile hall. Elijah House is confident they can continue to run the shelter at least through April 30, 2022. The County’s Space Use Committee has provided ongoing support for the use of the former juvenile hall facility on a temporary basis for the purpose of a homeless shelter.

Staff recommends your Board adopt the Space Use Committee’s recommendation to extend temporary use of old juvenile hall by Elijah House, as described herein.
