Subject:                     Adopt Proclamation in Support of Clear Lake Environmental Research Center

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF LAKE, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

Proclamation

IN SUPPORT OF CLEAR LAKE ENVIRONMENTAL RESEARCH CENTER

 

WHEREAS,                      Clear Lake Environmental Research Center also known as CLERC brings science, education, government, tribal, and business groups together to resolve issues involving Clear Lake; and

 

WHEREAS,                     CLERC coordinates projects to help combat the impacts of wildfire, promote positive regenerations of burned areas, and the preserve the forest and woodlands that have not been destroyed by fire; and

 

WHEREAS,                      Since 2019 CLERC has secured over $8.7 Million dollars for community projects in Lake County; and

 

WHEREAS,                      CLERC  collaborates with local partners and stakeholders to address priority projects in the Community Wildfire Protection Plan in the communities of Cobb, Loch Lomond, Middletown, Clearlake Rivieras’, City of Clearlake, Clearlake Oaks, Lucerne, Scotts Valley and within the Mendocino National Forest; and

 

WHEREAS,                      CLERC hosted two CIVICSPARK Fellows who have contributed toward building our local fire resilience capacity by providing updated GIS data for the Community Wildfire Protection Plan, public outreach at Municipal Advisory Councils, coordinating with AmeriCorps Teams, completing property assessments, organizing volunteer events such as Broom Busters, and public outreach; and

 

WHEREAS,                      CLERC has completed the Mt. Konocti Interface Fuel Break around the Clear Lake Riviera, Riviera West and Riviera Heights; and

 

WHEREAS,                      CLERC has also completed the Davis Fuel Break; the West Scotts Valley Fuels Break, and the Harbin Springs Fuel Break; and

 

WHEREAS,                      As of April 2022, CLERC has completed mitigation treatments on over 2,200 acres and removed over 450 hazardous trees.

 

Now therefore, be it proclaimed, that the Lake County Board of Supervisors, supports the Clear Lake Environmental Research Center and its efforts to help develop and maintain sustainable ecosystems and healthy forests and reduce the wildfire threat to our community.
