Memorandum

Date:                                          May 24, 2022

To:                                          The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Mary Darby, Director of Community Development Department

Subject:                     Consideration of an Ordinance adding Article 73 to Chapter 21 of the Lake Zoning Ordinance to address Commercial Cannabis Permitting Activities and Enforcement

Executive Summary:

Cannabis projects are becoming more controversial in our communities. The growing number of acres already approved, illegal cannabis grows, drought concerns, and the proximity to communities has aided in increasing public participation in questioning these projects.

The Community Development Department is proposing an update to the Zoning Ordinance to add an Article 73 to Chapter 21 of the Lake Zoning Ordinance to address Commercial Cannabis Permitting Activities and Enforcement. CDD will present proposed changes to the revised Commercial Cannabis Ordinance at this meeting and follow this meeting with scheduled interactive cannabis workshops with the cannabis industry and the general public on May 25-26, 2022 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Supervisor’s Chambers. A draft Ordinance is attached for your review and comments.
