Subject: Approve Memorandum of Understanding Between Lake County Behavioral Health Services and Lake County Health Services Department, Public Health Division, for the Safe Rx Coalition in the Amount of $40,000.00 for FY 2022-23 and Authorize the Board Chair to Sign.
Executive Summary:
The SafeRx Coalition is housed under the Lake County Department of Public Health Services and will continue to be operated under Public Health programs (not LCBHS). Lake County Behavioral Health Services is monetarily supporting the efforts and continued work of SafeRx by partnering through an MOU. The funding used to support SafeRx is from the federal Substance Abuse Block Grant - Primary Prevention Block Grant.
The SUD Prevention team is a participating member of the SafeRx coalition. Partnering through an MOU allows for the continued work of SafeRx that aligns with the Primary Prevention work being conducted with the SUD Prevention team and in alignment with Lake County Behavioral Health Services’ current Strategic Prevention Plan (SPP) 2019-2024.
The SafeRx coalition is an opioid safety coalition the that offers education and best practices in keeping the community and youth safe when it comes to prescribed medication misuse and overprescribing medications.
A priority area identified in the SPP is “Youth Prescription Drug Use;” SafeRx and LCBHS SUD Prevention under an MOU will work in partnership in the continuing efforts of the SafeRx coalition and LCBHS SUD Prevention (SPP) by increasing the communities perception of harm in relation to prescription drug use, increase public education, increase in media outreach and working towards a reduction of overprescribing.
This partnership through an MOU will allow for the monetary support to keep SafeRx operational and also meet the goals and objectives of the SPP under primary prevention.
