Memorandum
Date: July 12, 2022
To: The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors
From: Susan Parker, County Administrative Officer
Subject: Consideration of Response to the Bureau of Indian Affairs Invitation to Provide Comment on the Robinson Rancheria of Pomo Indians Land Acquisition Application
Executive Summary:
On June 17, 2022, the County received a Notice of Non-Gaming Land Acquisition Application from the Bureau of Indian Affairs (Bureau) inviting comments on the application by Robinson Rancheria of Pomo Indians (Tribe) to place 14 parcels into trust. These parcels represent a total of 845 acres including APN’s: 004-016-41; 004-021-08; 004-021-15; 004-022-08; 201-111-02; 201-111-03; 201-121-01; 201-121-02; 201-131-01; 201-131-02; 201-141-03; 201-141-04; 201-141-05; 201-141-06.
County staff has identified three parcels (004-021-08; 004-021-15; 004-022-08) listed on the application that have raised concerns of potential unintended consequences involving the Middle Creek Flood Damage and Ecosystem Restoration Project. These parcels are within the project boundaries and the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has indicated there is some uncertainty as to how this restoration project will move forward when parcels are taken into trust.
A letter responding to the Bureau’s inquiries is now before your Board for its consideration.
