Memorandum

Date:                                          February 27, 2024

To:                                          The Honorable Lake County Board of Supervisors

From:                                          Rob Howe,  Sheriff/Coroner/Director of Emergency Services

Subject:                     (A) Approve the purchase of 5 Motorola radios from the Sheriff/OES budget 2704, object code 62.74 and (B) Authorize the Sheriff to issue a Purchase Order to Command Communications in an amount not to exceed $45,000.

Executive Summary:   The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is currently using Motorola APX4000 VHF Analog/Digital portable radios.   Interoperability needs have been identified for the ability to communicate on UHF and 700/800/900 MHz systems as well as our VHF system during the times we are receiving or providing mutual aid.  Funds were secured through Homeland Security and a Request for Bids was issued on February 1, 2024. The Request for Bids was sent to three vendors, Day Wireless, Advanced Communications/Precision Wireless, and Command Communications. Two bids were received and are attached for your review along with a copy of the RFQ. There is current funding in the Sheriff/OES budget in the amount of $45,000.  The Lake County Sheriff’s Department has identified the Motorola APX8000 as the only multiband portable radio that is compatible with our existing VHF system and programming capabilities.
