Subject: Approve Long Distance Travel for Animal Control Officers Serena Copas and Kaitlyn Murry to attend the Level 1 Equine Investigations Academy in Durango, Colorado from August 18 to August 24, 2024.
Executive Summary:
Lake County Animal Care and Control is requesting your Board's approval to send Animal Control Officers Serena Copas and Kaitlyn Murry to the Level 1 Equine Investigations Academy in Durango, Colorado. The course is from August 19 to August 24, 2024, as well as an out-of-state travel day on August 18. The Academy provides training in the different aspects of horse abuse investigations. This in-residence academy combines classroom and hands-on instruction with horses to teach a systematic approach to equine investigators. The information gained will also apply to nearly all calls that are handled locally by our staff.
The cost of the course is $1950 per person and includes all meals, lodging, shuttle service and course materials. The airfare is estimated between $400 and $600. The total estimated cost per employee, including registration, airport parking, and all possible reimbursement, is no more than $3,000.
